Take Voice & Piano Lessons with Katie!

VOICE LESSONS

Katie Jillson has had a continuous performance career in Boston and surrounding New England areas over the past 20 years. A graduate of the New England Conservatory, Katie began studying voice at the age of 14 and has continued to learn and grow not only as a performer but also as a teacher.

Katie truly believes that there is not one teaching style for all – singing is a different experience for each student. She works with students on an individual basis to achieve a dialogue of teaching and communication that maximizes the use of lesson time.  Her approach is centered around achieving vocal freedom by teaching students how to use their breath, release any tension, and strengthen vocal ability in all registers of the voice.  She also teaches lyric diction to students when applied to repertoire.

Katie teaches students ages 8 through adult.  Younger students focus on learning the basics of pitch, breath inhalation, and articulating consonants and vowels, in addition to exploring vocal range.   She also uses improvisational theatre skills to help children achieve greater confidence and freedom in performance. Basic music theory and beginner piano training are also available to students of any age.

Singing is an extremely rewarding art.  Katie desires for students to enjoy every moment of singing and to leave all fears at the door, which is why she chooses to create a supportive environment for students. There are no bad notes, only opportunities to learn and grow – not only as singers, but also as people.

Katie is a member of the National Association of Teachers of Singing (NATS) and the NATS New England chapter.

PIANO LESSONS

While the voice was always a strong part of Katie’s musical foundation, her journey actually began with the piano at the age of 5.  She knows the excitement and importance of piano lessons at any age.  In Katie’s piano studio, she teaches students not only how to play correct notes and rhythms, but how to express themselves musically.  Teaching beginner, advanced beginner and intermediate students, Katie teaches a solid foundation of piano playing, music theory, ear training and music history.  She creates a supportive, positive learning environment while providing honest, constructive criticism.  Students are inspired to be self-motivated by listening and assessing their music.  They will learn practice tools that can help them in their in-home practice.

Katie believes that piano is for everyone regardless of age and ability.  Piano study not only opens up your world to playing the piano and a life long appreciation of music, but also teaches one important life skills such creativity and self-expression, concentration, self-discipline and determination.
